Japtaal Amrat Hussain Experience

A native of Jaipur in the beautiful northern Indian fairy land of Radjastan, Amrat Hussain grew up in the tradition of Indian classical music and ancient poetry. "My family has consisted of all musicians for seven generations, and my grand-father and ancestors were music masters for the Maharaja of Jaipur". Amrat was naturally drawn to the tabla and started studying the instrument at age 5. A professional musician by the time he was 12, he played his first concert for national Indian television the following year, 1996. Soon he decided to spread his musical traditions from his native land fuse it with different cultures around the world. Together with his brother Rahis Bharti he founded music and dance project The Dhoad Gypsies From Rajasthan, mixing traditional, classical and gypsy music from Rajastan. The project has been touring the globe with great success ever since. In 2008, he shared the stage with the great Carlos Santana at Pori Jazz Festival in Finland. Amrat Hussain settled in Europe in 2003, living first in Rome, Italy. In 2006 he moved to Lyon, France, where he met the drummer Grégory Jouandon. A two time winner of the prestigious Suivez Le Jazz awards (2005 & 2007), Grégory Jouandon had already worked with French Jazz heavy weights like Médéric Collignon, Pierre Drevet, Eric Prost, Irving Acao, Mario Stanchev or Stéphane Horton. The two felt an immediate and extraordinary musical connection and decided to explore new ways in music together. Jamming together the first time was like thunder and lightning, like we had known each other for decades! Amrat remembers. In 2007, the rhythm duo was joined by guitarist Yves Perrin. Yves Perrin released eleven albums under his name, among them the critically acclaimed Naïve (1999), from traditional to contemporary jazz genre, from baroque to acoustic workshops…. A rich and eclectic range of experiences shaped this prolific musician over many years and translates into an insatiable musical curiosity that compliments Amrat and Greg’s rhythmic spirit. And so the Amrat Hussain Experience was born.
